Older-Adult Anesthesia Protocol Defined Hypotension by Both Pressure and Duration

An event definition can change what an anesthesia trial counts.

What the supplied source reports

The protocol planned 210 adults aged at least eighty, randomized among propofol, etomidate and remimazolam. Its primary endpoint was mean arterial pressure below 65 mm Hg for one minute between induction and skin incision. Other planned measures included vasopressors, relative pressure reduction, delirium and in-hospital organ complications.

Limits of the evidence

This is a trial plan, not a report of comparative results. It is single-center and lacks long-term follow-up. A brief drop outside the specified window or below a different threshold would not necessarily be counted the same way.

Implications for expert analysis

When comparing a patient’s chart with research, reproduce the study’s threshold, duration and observation window. Avoid classifying every low reading as the same endpoint. A protocol can clarify how evidence will be generated without establishing that any one of the three drugs performed better.
