Detectable CBD and Duration of Effect After a Liposomal Injection
A canine pilot study tracked plasma CBD after a subcutaneous liposomal formulation.
An injectable formulation can leave measurable drug in circulation over an extended period. Shilo-Benjamini and colleagues studied a liposomal CBD injection in dogs with naturally occurring osteoarthritis. The researchers reported detectable plasma CBD over a six-week period after subcutaneous administration.
Detection and response require separate measurements
The plasma result describes how long CBD could be measured under the study conditions. The team also monitored pain and well-being in dogs receiving multimodal pain management. Those observations address different outcomes. The presence of CBD in plasma alone cannot establish when a pain response began or how long it lasted.
The findings concern a specific formulation and a pilot study. The authors called for placebo-controlled research. When comparing detection times, the relevant details include the formulation, sampling schedule and analytical method. Assessing an effect also requires an outcome measure taken over the period of interest.
