Hysteroscopy Trial Compared Remimazolam and Propofol With Remifentanil in Both Regimens
The reported advantage concerned selected events within a combined anesthetic protocol.
The reported advantage concerned selected events within a combined anesthetic protocol.
What the source reports
Eighty-two patients were randomized to remimazolam or propofol, with remifentanil used after induction and titrated during hysteroscopy. Injection pain and several recorded respiratory or circulatory events were less frequent with remimazolam under the studied regimen.
Limits and uncertainty
The single-center trial was small and could not exclude uncommon harms. Injection discomfort, oxygen desaturation and hypotension are distinct endpoints. Findings with a shared opioid cannot establish benzodiazepine analgesia or apply unchanged to a different sedation depth.
Application to expert review
For an expert comparison, describe the actual drug combination, event definitions and monitoring. A favorable overall adverse-event label can conceal which events drove the difference. The trial supports a protocol-specific comparison, not a guarantee that remimazolam avoids all cardiorespiratory depression.
