Did a Post-Seizure Peptide Study Measure Tissue Injury or Seizure Control?

A treatment given after a prolonged seizure can be studied for effects on later tissue injury. That question differs from whether it stops the seizure or prevents later epilepsy.

When the intervention and tissue measurements occurred

The investigators induced status epilepticus with pilocarpine in male Wistar rats. They administered the experimental peptide Ac2-26 at two, eight, and 14 hours after induction in the treatment group. The seizure groups also received diazepam at four hours. At 24 hours the researchers examined hippocampal tissue. The study reported less neuronal degeneration and lower levels of selected inflammatory markers in treated animals.

What the early tissue result leaves open

Describe the result as a tissue finding in an animal model over the first day. A claim about seizure termination or long-term recurrence would require an outcome and follow-up suited to that claim. The reported tissue markers do not supply those measurements.
