A Cannabinoid Agonist Enhanced Levetiracetam but Not Clobazam in a Mouse Seizure Test

A preclinical interaction study found a selective positive result that did not extend to clobazam.

A preclinical interaction study found a selective positive result that did not extend to clobazam.

The measured contrast

Mice underwent a 6-Hz corneal-stimulation seizure model. The cannabinoid agonist ACEA was coadministered with PMSF and several antiseizure medicines. The combination enhanced levetiracetam’s anticonvulsant effect, while clobazam and several other tested drugs did not show significant potentiation.

Do not generalize one interaction across drugs

The result concerns a specific agonist, accompanying compound, dose and acute animal model. It is not a cannabidiol trial and does not establish that cannabis products have the same effect. A null clobazam result should not be erased by the positive levetiracetam finding, nor interpreted as proof of no possible interaction under other conditions. The study supports drug- and model-specific interpretation, leaving human efficacy and safety unresolved.
