People Felt Sleepier as the Day Went On. Did the Cannabinoid Oil Explain It?
In a blinded crossover trial of low-dose cannabinoid oils, 20 healthy adults with limited cannabis experience contributed data to the final analysis. Participants received oils with THC-to-CBD ratios of 1:1 or 1:16, or placebo, and rated their sleepiness at several points after dosing.
A change over time is only part of the result
Self-rated sleepiness rose by about 1.9 points between 40 and 265 minutes after treatment, averaged across conditions. The study did not detect significant sleepiness differences among the oils and placebo. During the observation periods, the researchers likewise reported no significant differences for the measured sleep duration, sleep onset, or nighttime awakenings.
Match the conclusion to the endpoint
A before-and-after change on a treatment day can occur in the placebo condition too. The trial’s comparison therefore addresses whether the tested oils measurably changed sleepiness relative to placebo. The sleepiness scale captures how participants felt. It cannot establish how someone would perform a driving task or how a higher dose would affect them.
